About Induction Cooking

Induction cooktop ranges are showing up on the US appliance market after decades of success in Europe; however, they are a greater investment than a gas or electric range. That's where our Induction Cooking Program comes in! The goal of this pilot program is to provide education about induction so users can have a chance to try out the technology for themselves. Kits are available to check out for free at all library locations listed below.

Induction cooktops are powered by electromagnetic energy and interact only with compatible cookware. An electromagnetic field is created causing the pan to heat up - but not the cooktop itself! This technology emits no pollutants into your home and uses less electricity than a traditional electric stove due to the higher amount of heat transfer. Because the cooktop does not generate heat, it also cools faster once the pot or pan is removed and poses less of a burn risk.

Note: The magnetic fields generated by induction cooktops could potentially interfere with the functioning of pacemakers and insulin pumps. People with such medical devices should consult with their doctor before using an induction cooktop.

Induction cooking kits can be checked out or placed on hold at all locations shown on this map, depending on availability.
