Nearly one million children in the United States have lead levels in their blood high enough to cause irreversible damage. We want families to be aware of the dangers of lead. Lead can affect children’s brains and developing nervous systems, causing reduced IQ, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. Lead is also harmful to adults.
Our work crews have replaced windows containing lead-based paint in homes and apartment buildings throughout Minnesota. We help qualifying families identify and address dangerous lead hazards in their home, including applying for assistance through one or both of our Lead Hazard Control Grants.
SRC works with Hennepin County to Administer HUD Lead Grants to protect children from exposure to lead-based paint hazards. Grant assistance is available to eligible homeowners and rental property owners for lead-safe renovation and lead painted window replacement in pre-1978 housing.
